Election Season

Tuesday November 8th is election day!  And you know what that means….last-minute literature hand-outs!

This is an important election year for Schenectady.  The government has grown corrupt and the election debates have become heated.  There are a fair number of races this year and the mayoral race between the current Acting Mayor, Democrat Gary McCarthy, and Alliance Party member Roger Hull has become particularly intense.

This election season has prompted many students to become more involved in our community.  A few of my friends and I organized a voter registration drive in October, one of the Minerva houses on campus sponsored an event with Roger Hull, and yesterday, November 5th, 5 or 6 Union College Republicans went out into the streets of Schenectady to hand out literature on the Republican candidates.  Despite my political affiliation, I seem to have adopted the role of photographer for the College Republicans–something I’m perfectly OK with because hey, I just like to take pictures.
